Who Was Fr. Mark Beard?

Before becoming a priest, Fr. Beard worked in the private sector, earning an MBA from LSU and contributing to his family’s engineering company, where he even held a patent. But everything changed after a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in 2000. There, he began to feel the call to the priesthood. After four years of discernment, he entered seminary and was ordained in 2009.

He served in several parishes across the Diocese of Baton Rouge but spent his final 12 years as pastor of St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite, Louisiana. His homilies were rich in truth, deeply rooted in Scripture, and often filled with personal stories, humor, and heartfelt appeals for holiness. He was a spiritual father to many and a fierce defender of the Catholic faith in a time of confusion and compromise.

A Sudden Loss, A Lasting Legacy
